Greetings, I am a full time certified medical assistant by day at a local urgent care and by night I am a full time mom of a spoonky 5 year old boy. I am applying for this scholarship to help me continue my education to pursue a career in nursing. Unfortunately with my current income as a certified medical assistant I am unable to pay for college. Typically after paying all of my household bills we do not have much money remaining and some days we are actually in debt which does set us back the next paycheck. Prior to becoming a medical assistant I had worked several fast food and retail jobs to make ends meet. One point I remember becoming so depressed I began wondering if my son was just better off without me and became suicidal. Once I was able to shake the funk I decided that continuing my education would be the only way that I would be able to provide a better life for my son and myself. I then decided to pursue an interest in the medical field because I loved helping others when I was able too. I have used my certification as a medical assistant as an introduction into the medical field. I am ready to continue my career and take the next steps which would be becoming a nurse. I want to continue doing what I enjoy as well as be able to provide a better life for my son. I would like to be able to buy a home to give my son his own bedroom or even be able to buy him snacks and his favorite food without having to tell him “not this time, we don’t have the money”. I do admit that some days I do get frustrated because my son doesn’t understand why there are certain things that we can't have because we are unable to afford them. Overall I just want to feel as If I can make a difference in someone else's life, whether it is my family or a complete stranger. I have watched my classmates over the years post success stories and I constantly think to myself “my time will come”. I have never been the person to feel the need to have to keep up with my peers. I was taught at a young age that it does not matter who wins the race, all that matters is that you finish the race knowing that you gave it your all. Becoming a registered nurse is my race. I WILL be accepted into the nursing program, I WILL pass all my classes, I WILL pass NCLEX, and I will not give up. I am just needing someone who believes in me as much as I believe in myself to help me financially reach my goals.
