Sanjay Reddy is a co-founding partner of Unlock Venture Labs. He was previously an executive at FOTV Media Networks (Hologram technology and OTT platform), CEO of OVGuide (video guidance; acquired by FOTV) and CEO and co-founder of Live Matrix (guide to the Live Web; acquired by OVGuide). While at OVGuide, Sanjay oversaw the release of 26 AVOD movie channels on Roku and the development of FASEngine, a cloud based data tagging solution based on NLP and ML algorithms that ingested, normalized and distributed hundreds of third party metadata feeds that were continuously updated and matched against a master set of 40M topics.
Prior to these startups, Sanjay served as the head of business development, strategy and M&A for Gemstar-TV Guide International (NASDAQ: GMST) where he oversaw the public auction process that resulted in Gemstar’s sale to Macrovision (now TiVo) in 2008 for $2.8 billion. He joined Gemstar-TV Guide in 2004 with broad media, finance and technology experience, having previously served as a vice president in the M&A group at Salomon Smith Barney in New York; vice president of corporate development for Covad Communications, a publicly traded DSL company (NASDAQ: COVD) based in Silicon Valley; and as a principal in startups in the animation software and entertainment industries. Sanjay has advised a range of companies, especially in the video space, including BuddyTV (acquired by Vizio), My Damn Channel, V-Nova and TVersity, and is a co-author of four filed patents while at Gemstar-TV Guide and Live Matrix.
He has also been a successful early-stage investor in technology companies such as Klout (acquired by Vista Equity Partners), NetCracker Technologies (acquired by NEC) and JW Player (the world’s largest open source video player). His diverse background includes having served as a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences National Primetime Emmy Awards Committee and on its interactive media peer group’s executive committee. He is a current board member of Swipe Out Hunger, which partners with colleges to end student hunger, and a member of the advisory board for the Price Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at UCLA Anderson.
Sanjay earned a B.A. in economics, magna cum laude, from Cornell University and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School.
