Gabrielle Necastro

My job as a teacher was to plan fun and interactive lessons that was understandable to second and third grade students. I had to supervise the groups of students of various sizes. It was essential that I developed communication skills, since I had to communicate with kids, parents, co-workers, and supervisors.

As a volunteer project, I decided to teach fourth and fifth grade Girl Scouts about their business badge. I learned how to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts to a younger audience. I had to prepare a presentation in advance and rehearse several times to ensure my message was as articulate as I wanted it to be.

At Bradley University, I am an executive member of our Active Minds Chapter. I work quite closely with the executive team and brainstorm fundraiser ideas that demonstrate mental health awareness, along with finding out ways we can give back to our community.

DECA is an international business organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools and colleges. I competed at the district level for all four years, state at two, and internationals once. All my positions taught me the value of communication, organization, and the importance of being self-driven. I've organized many events for the chapter and have had to contact and work with many people within the school district.
