After 6 years of architectural education, in 2016 I graduated from Belarusian National Technical University with a Bachelor’s degree. I started to work in a small Belarusian architectural company with a humble salary while dreaming of something bigger and somewhere else (mostly because of the dictatorship in my country of birth). And then unexpectedly something huge happened to me - I was fortunate enough to win a Green Card lottery. I couldn’t believe my luck, and being adventurous by nature, I jumped at the opportunity to turn my life around in an unpredictable way.
Only one month after my arrival here, I got a job offer from an architectural company in Brooklyn. Working for Citiscape I progressed from making minor amendments in projects to leading new building applications. My boss showed his appreciation for my professional growth by entrusting me with two interns, and I greatly enjoyed mentoring them. With all my responsibilities, I was still only able to be considered a Drafter on paper. This is why I need to complete a NAAB-certified Master’s Program--to get a license and obtain the title of an architect in the US.
While my personal goal is simply to succeed in the US, my professional goal consists of thousands of steps each day. At the top of my ladder is to build a recognizable architectural brand. The step before is to successfully manage an architectural company focused on sustainability and green energy -- because I care. And in the following 5 years, I aspire to become a licensed architect. I am not dreaming anymore, I am planning.
